Director of Product Management

About You

You bring a unique set of skills to the table. You have a P.Eng in Civil Engineering, a strongly developed business acumen, and experience in software development. You possess technical know-how and customer relationship skills. You can effectively communicate the needs of the engineering community to the rest of the team and in turn, demonstrate to the community of the amazing benefits of our software. You will be the champion and evangelist of our products. You are considered an expert in the transportation industry and people look up to you for that expertise.

About Your Role

You will be responsible to develop, implement, and maintain Transoft’s product strategy and its product roadmap. You will undertake market research, assess strategic requirements, and user needs in defining the optimal product plans. You will collaborate and coordinate with the software development team, the marketing and sales teams and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the company’s products. You will be responsible for coaching, mentoring and overseeing a group of product managers, engineers, technologists and technicians, while continuously participating in technical, software and business development and client management activities.

Key Responsibilities

Product Management

  • Develop the product strategy and maintain the product family roadmap
  • Define and prioritize product features and capabilities and work closely with development throughout the product lifecycle to ensure that the products developed are ones customers want to buy
  • Conduct market research to remain current on industry trends and developments.
  • Capture market needs and define requirements for capabilities, features, performance , interface design and promote product benefits, capabilities and value propositions through relationships with key customers
  • Anticipate and resolve any problems arising that would cause missed product release deadlines, unsatisfactory levels of product quality, support services, etc.
  • Update the revenue forecasts based on the proposed plans, once every three years, as a minimum.

Technical Research

  • Assist with screening, guiding and conducting research on new product ideas and product upgrades
  • Manage and lead technical research initiatives and initiating market research and market sizing exercises
  • Write white papers, technical communiqués and assist in creation of user documentation and marketing collaterals
  • Assist with field research tasks including data analysis and report writing
  • Work with Transoft’s team of advisors to inject technical value in products

Business Development

  • Seek new market opportunities within Transoft’s distinctive competence
  • Work closely with network of external advisors, technical experts to assist in the product plans and to further the company’s goals.
  • Create and maintain the business requirements/cases, identify and prioritize new business opportunities
  • Assist Finance and Sales teams in establishing and achieving revenue goals, profit margins, and pricing strategies

Software Development

  • Provide leadership in the preparation of vision statements, use cases, technical specifications and requirements documentation for use by Software Development
  • Work closely with Development and QA teams to enhance software interface and usability
  • Liaise with users prior, during and after product launch, including alpha and beta test phases

Sales & Marketing

  • Conduct product webcasts and presentations and facilitate channel training for products
  • Represent Transoft to customers through briefings, site visits, industry days, tradeshows, and other company-sponsored events
  • Collaborate with cross-functional global teams including sales, marketing, development, QA teams to drive product definition and successfully execute the product roadmap
  • Involvement in developing the go-to-market strategy of products and ensuring that the sales team has all of the sales tools, collateral and programs necessary for market leadership
  • Evangelize the products across internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Analyze competitive strategies and tactics, and work with sales personnel to devise Transoft’s strategies, documenting competitive threats and related industry news

Reporting

This position will report to the President and CEO and will work very closely with members from Software Development, and Sales and Marketing teams.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years civil design experience
  • 5+ years of popular civil design software experience
  • Experience with Civil 3D, GeoPak, InRoads or other land development software in addition to AutoCAD and/or MicroStation are required
  • Professional engineering designation – P.Eng.
  • Formal business degree – MBA preferred
  • Experience managing a team of technical personnel with diverse qualifications and experience
  • Experience with project management
  • Travel (30%) required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, engineering or related fields

  • 2+ years experience in C/C++, MFC and .NET
  • Working knowledge of UML, UI design, database schema and software life cycle tools.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills

Civil Engineering Technologist

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide product training to both internal and external clients both onsite and through webcasts.
  • Prepare and develop AutoCAD/Micro Station drawings and product training material.
  • Assist Quality Assurance and Development team with new program release testing.
  • Generate documentation in the form of technical issue notes, technical tips and best practices.
  • Participate in providing solutions for the product knowledge base.
  • Prepare and lead technical presentations for other Transoft departments (e.g. Sales, Marketing), designed to further improve technical capabilities of internal teams.
  • Assist with technical research tasks as directed by supervisor
  • Assist with field research tasks including data analysis
  • Offer input during development phases, working closely with Development and QA teams to enhance software interface and usability
  • As directed, offer input to Product Support Services (PSS) for clients requiring technical assistance
  • Prepare vision statements, use cases, technical specifications and requirements documentation for use by Software Development
  • Liaise with users prior, during and after product launch, including alpha and beta test phases
  • Assist with applications and prototype testing
  • Assist with technical writing and vetting of user documentation and marketing collaterals
  • Assist with business case writing including carrying out competitive analysis required for new products

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation or similar an asset
  • 3-5 years experience in civil engineering
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to contribute in a collaborative environment
  • Detail-oriented and well organized
  • Ability to successfully work under tight deadlines
