Florida: Ahead of the Curve

Aug 27, 2018

Florida has always been a special place for us here at Transoft. Not from a world-renowned vacation destination point of view but because of the mutual and long-standing association with Florida DOT, the relationship with our customer base – the highest per capita of any State – and our involvement with the educational and professional organizations within the region. Milton Carrasco, Transoft’s President and CEO, recently ended his term as the inaugural Chair of the University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI) External Advisory Board during which he helped establish a Board Charter, conducted its first Strategic Planning exercise to help identify Centers of Excellence in the fields of Big Data and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV).  In addition, we have sponsored scholarships for civil engineering undergraduate students.

Florida DOT was one of the early adaptors of our software, going as far back as the mid-nineties. Fast forward to today and our relationship holds stronger than ever with FDOT recently adding multiple seats of AutoTURN® Pro to their transportation engineering solutions alongside GuideSIGN® and Torus® for roundabouts. With this latest addition, FDOT joins other leading US agencies like Caltrans, Texas DOT and Pennsylvania DOT in their adoption of AutoTURN Pro and its advanced capabilities, which, among other innovative features, includes 3D vehicle swept paths and the proprietary IntelliPath® tool.

According to FDOT’s website, the agency manages over 122k and 12k centerline miles of public roads and highway systems respectively with the latter alone seeing over 322 million daily vehicle miles traveled. And with a population of over 20 million growing at a rate of 1% year over year, it’s no wonder that FDOT turns to leading edge solutions to help manage its complex road and infrastructure projects. It’s a good thing then that Florida ranks higher than the US average in terms of infrastructure according to ASCE’s Infrastructure Report Card.

Do we factor in there somewhere? We believe our solutions contribute real value by helping engineers and designers produce safer designs, increasing productivity, and improving operations.
