Advanced Swept Path Analysis E-Mobility

AutoTURN

The increasing popularity of electric vehicles has altered the requirements for the entire infrastructure. This applies to e-bikes and scooters as well as e-cars, small commercial vehicles and buses. The trend is encouraging–particularly in inner-city areas–because it dramatically lowers CO2 emissions. Watch our webinar to see how this transformation affects the planning and redesign of traffic areas. Get insight on how Transoft’s intelligent software supports advanced traffic and transport planning, and see which calculations and simulations can be applied to the use of electric vehicles. Planners and engineers around the world use AutoTURN Pro for their planning processes and expedite their decision-making.

One thing remains constant in e-mobility: Safety comes first, and every conceivable risk should be eliminated in the planning phase.

SPEED PROFILES, CUSTOMIZING AND CONFLICT ANALYSIS OF E-VEHICLES: THAT’S WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT

The planning process for roads, intersections, bicycle paths, footpaths and parking facilities is truly complicated. AutoTURN Pro, with its comprehensive swept-path functionality, lets you easily check a site or road design to ensure that all types of vehicles can proceed safely and efficiently. From bicycles to cars to buses, trucks and heavy-haul industrial transport, you can quickly test a range of maneuvers and get reliably accurate results. The software even covers the currently available e-vehicles.

CUSTOMIZE ANY VEHICLE YOU DESIRE

Let’s use the first example to see what the display of a speed profile for an e-moped could look like in AutoTURN Pro. The standard library offers a wide range of different vehicles, so you’re sure to find the right one. If not, you can change any of various parameters such as the vehicle length, wheelbase, etc. Once the vehicle is defined, you can generate the vehicle’s speed profile as it moves through a roundabout.

After having placed a two-dimensional arc, select your vehicle and align the vehicle along the geometry. A small arrow indicates the direction, and the vehicle can be simulated at a desired speed of entry. The task is to determine whether the selected vehicle can pass the roundabout safely at the given speed. If the speed you’ve chosen is too high, it will immediately be shown in the simulation so that you can reduce the speed and retest. Once the simulation is complete, you can create a speed profile by clicking “Generate Report.” You’ll get a clear breakdown of vehicle speeds in the respective sections.

Another way to display the speed profile is by clicking “Inspect Simulation.” This function calculates the maximum possible speeds for the route and the selected/configured vehicle. Isn’t that great?

Have a look also at other custom made vehicles in this webinar [LINK]: e-cargo bikes, e-cargo tricycles and e-delivery vans. They all are very popular to manage the final mile delivery issue well. In AutoTURN Pro it’s no big deal to configure a new vehicle, even if you want to add a cargo box on the back of a bike.

CONFLICT ANALYSIS: BEST BEFORE A COLLISION OCCURS

Choosing the right speed is one thing, but what about the challenges posed by obstacles? We’ve created a simulation that uses  an e-bus. Every maneuver is shown, and the simulation makes it clear that there are two points of conflict.

Turn simulations are generated in consideration of user-drawn CAD elements on the specified obstacle layer or level that interacts with the vehicle body as well as the clearance envelopes of turn simulations. The portions of those elements that conflict with the vehicle body and body-clearance envelopes of turn simulations are highlighted to indicate that a conflict has been detected. Additionally, a note is added at the first and last vehicle position in the turn simulation to draw attention to a conflict somewhere within the turn simulation.

MAKE USE OF THE ADVANCED INTELLIPATH FUNCTION

Perhaps this is the first time you’ve heard about IntelliPathTM. Well, this is another great feature of the AutoTURN Pro software: It generates simulations with unrivaled accuracy and speed. So, an area with exclusion lines and a path can be defined and within this area, multiple maneuvers for different vehicles can be simulated. You can save time and perform faster analysis, calculating also maximum possible speed on the given route.

The IntelliPathTM tool enhances your work process with quick, accurate before-and-after comparison of road geometry.
